The Rumpus Project

Since forever, I've wanted to write a story like Baccano! I'd like it to take place in my world and be basically a wild and crazy ride with some of my favorite characters, new and old. I want it told completely out of order with the characters tying the whole thing together. So, To get started on this, I've decided to do character profiles for all my characters and post them here. Here's what I'm working on...

Rumpus Ideas To Blend
  1. A group of disenfranchised thaumaturges decides to overthrow the Council and try to gather as many allies as possible for the feat.
  2. One person's never-ending journey for immortality, true immortality, and the sacrifices made along the way
  3. Magenta, Porfirio's barista, wants to have the perfect wedding
  4. The Council investigates a possible insurrection against them, trying to find the ringleaders and punish them for their disloyalty.
  5. A girl undergoes a transformation from human to not quite human without knowing how or why, but others do know and they're hunting her
  6. A person thinks they're an ordinary human who happens to have extraordinary friends, then they find out they have the amazing ability to not die
  7. A select group of people discover the last of a destructive race has been hidden as a human for years. They aim to find this being and destroy it before it destroys the world

Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker

The Celestial Toymaker  is the twenty-fourth serial of Doctor Who  or the seventh serial of Season Three of the series. It originally aired in fourth weekly parts between April 2 and 23, 1966. Like most of the serials of Season Three, this serial is missing episodes. In this case, it is the first three episodes of the serial with the final episode still in the BBC archives. So, once again, I'll be mostly watching a Loose Cannon Inc. reconstruction. I would say that I'm getting to enjoy these reconstructions, but I would be lying through my teeth. I don't know much about the Toymaker himself other than the fact that the Doctor was invisible at the end of the last serial with the Refusians getting the blame for some reason while the Doctor denied the possibility of that. We'll get to see in this serial what's really going on... I hope! Two Hours Later... Well... That was interesting. Once again, I find myself wishing these serials weren't missing.

Once Upon a Time

Soap Opera Fairy Tales! So... last year, there were two new shows available to watch on two big channels that heavily featured fairy tales as part of their plot.  The first one I heard of and saw commercials for was Grimm  which was created by the some of the people who helped write Buffy the Vampire Slayer  and Angel .  In fact, it sort of looked like a detective show (a la Angel ) about a person from a long line of monster hunters (a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer ).  It wasn't too far off the mark from what was promised and I figured I'd like it more than the other  fairy tale-based TV show that was also being made that year. That other show turned out to be Once Upon a Time...  or as my friend and I call it OUaT or as I think I'll call it from now on... OUT.  Seems fitting for some reason. Soul Mates

I've been thinking a lot about the idea of soul mates lately and how it is used in books in movies.  It's a complicated subject for me because there are a lot  of ways the idea of soul mates, soul bonds, etc. can be used in terrible, uncreative, and even idiotic ways.  On the other hand, when they're used somewhat well, you can give them or take them from the story.  They don't really matter much.  It's just like, "Oh... and they're soul mates, by the way." It's like an afterthought  and incredibly lame.  When used right--and there are a lot of different ways the idea of soul mates can  be used right--it's magical.  It's amazing.  It makes me like  soul mates.
