Benny the Cat
Benny the Cat is a big, fat, orange tabby cat I came up with during my first year of college... sometime around the time Nemo and Cassandra Troy were created. He looks something like...
Well, he's fatter and his eyes are usually green in my head. The picture above is some stock photo I found somewhere once.
Benny wears a black collar with a watch instead of a tag or bell.
This is important.
You see, Benny was once a human named Benjamin Kramer III, who grew up around Civil War Era... somewhere in America. Not really sure where. Anyhow, on his eighteenth birthday, he received a fob-watch that looked like just like any other except if he wound it a certain way he could teleport and even do some limited time travel.
Well, that's because Benny's watch wasn't any watch. It was The Watch, a receptacle of power supposedly from the creators of the universe holding power over time and space within its gears. It's one of the most powerful items in any universe, and Benny owned it.
Well, other people wanted it, but the Watch would just revert back to Benny.
Even when he gave it away.
He would give it to someone and within an hour, the watch would be back in his pocket on its chain as though he'd never handed it over to others.
Many people tried to take Benny's watch away, but it never worked.
Finally, a group of magic users got together and had a bright idea: animals don't use watches. If Benny were turned into, say, a cat, then the watch would no longer work for him and anyone else could take possession of the Watch.
So, they kidnapped Benjamin Kramer III and performed a bit of ritual magic to turn him into a cat.
The ritual worked. Benny became a cat. However, the Watch changed itself into a collar to stay with Benny and made him immortal to boot. Worse, the watch won't allow him to be turned back into a human.
Benny hasn't really changed since he came into my head a while back. The Watch has changed from being a receptacle for Porfirio's powers to simply being a receptacle for certain powers of the multi-verse, but that's about it.
He's kind of one of my more favored characters because he's just fun to include.
Oh! Benny has changed in one way, he became part of a family that's world for the Council of Magic for quite some time. In fact, his family is cursed, that's why he got the watch. Every generation of Kramer has a male who is cursed to undergo a transformation which would force the other Kramers to kill them if they followed the Council's directives. It's a pretty powerful curse. Because Benny is an immortal, teleporting cat, he is the Kramer of his generation that was cursed. He uses his powers to protect those others in his family who fall victim to the curse, like his great nephew, Jack Cain.
