Doctor Who: The Gunfighters

The Doctor meets the Doc!
The Gunfighters originally aired between April 30 and May 21, 1966 on BBC1. These four episodes made up the eighth serial of the third season of the series and apparently will begin with the Doctor having bad teeth... which was very common in England back then if Austen Powers is to be believed. The episode is another historical one set in 19th Century America and the days leading up to the famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. So... The Doctor, Steven and Dodo are going to meet Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday!

YES!!!

Even better... none of these episodes are missing! I may show this serial to my step-daddy after I'm done watching it if it's any good. If it sucks, I'll just forget it exists.

Two Hours Later...

Well, in this episode, the Doctor got his tooth removed by Doc Holliday. Then he was confused for Doc Holliday. Then he was arrested as Doc Holliday. Then that whole mess got cleared up. Then the Clanton Brothers did a bunch of horrible stuff and the Doctor was made the Sheriff of Tombstone. It doesn't last long. Steven and Dodo sing at one point and a lot of silliness in general happens.

The man who plays Doc Holliday isn't as good as Val Kilmer in the movie Tombstone. The man who plays Wyatt Earp isn't as good as any of the portrayals of him over the years. This is mostly due to the fact that they lay on the accent too heavy and play up the goofy side of things too much for my liking.

This serial is generally a comedic serial along the lines of The Romans. There's a lot of mistaken identity, a weird musical soundtrack/commentary and a lot of other things that make this episode funny. That's not even mentioning how many people try to give the Doctor their guns and how irritated he gets about it. Nevermind the fact that Steven took a gun from the Doctor's collection. Yeah. The Doctor. Has. A Collection. Of Guns.

Wrap your head around that.

He just doesn't like shooting or killing people very much.

But he has a collection.

There's not much else to say about this episode. Dodo is a pretty interesting character and she gets into the whole American West culture a little too much. She also play piano pretty well. The part where she and Steven are forced to perform is utterly hilarious. Especially the part when Doc Holliday's girl forces Steven to stop singing and start playing the piano and Dodo get's severely indignant about it.

Other than that... It pretty much tries to follow what supposedly happened at the O.K. Corral, cleaning it up for the kids at home quite a bit.  It's a nice little serial and leads straight into the next serial, The Savages. I'll cover that one tomorrow.
