The Appalachian Method

Look at that view!
So, you're probably wondering what I wrote about for NaNoWriMo. A lot of people have asked me in person and this is online where a reader can't exactly ask unless they comment and no one comments on here. So... I'll assume you want to know.

Here's the blurb I put on the NaNo site:
After the death of her beloved aunt, Ellie Brown finds that she possesses some serious magical powers.  With no prior belief or knowledge of magic, this is a big problem. Ellie just wants to be normal, but as the Council of Thaumaturgy tracks her down, a thing (she refuses to call IT a man) in a purple suit appears in her life, and everyone knows what's going on besides her, her prospects of normalcy seem to be very, very, very small. Can Ellie find sense in all this madness or will the madness drive Ellie to the same fate as her aunt?

And here's the excerpt I put on the same site:
Ellie did not sit, crying alone on the stone wall for long. In fact, she only had a few moments to wonder just what she would do before all of the strange things she'd seen and been through were topped in a most spectacular fashion, something that would not be topped for very long, but Ellie did not know that.
One moment, Ellie sat crying alone, wondering about her aunt and what she would do now that she'd... done something so horrible.
The next, a purple door appeared out of nowhere, just standing in the middle of the sidewalk and opened.
Ellie had just a moment of hope that God had finally taken notice and opened a door for her when a figure peeked out of the door and then emerged in all of its horrifying, eye-bleeding glory. It (Ellie refused to think of whatever it was as some kind of gender because it couldn't possibly be human) stood at six feet tall, ducking to get through the five-foot door. Bedecked head-to-toe in a blindingly bright violet suit (How could violet be so bright?), with pale skin that shined like the moon topped with a top hat, the Thing cut quite a figure as purple lips smiled at a bewildered, frightened, and emotionally distressed Ellie. The wind, rain, and rosebushes took notice, whipping up into a frenzy around the poor girl.
"Would you...by any chance... be... Eleanor Brown?"
Ellie gaped into mocking violet eyes in horror and fascination.
                When did life get surreal?
"I take it you must be this... Eleanor Brown I have heard of," He said and then took a bow, "I am Porfirio, Guardian of the Veil, Protector of all Universes, Owner of the Lilac Cafe, Enemy of Nemo, Minor Chair of the International Council of Thaumatugy's Aberration Department, Supreme Grand High Wizard, Champion of Outsiders and Aberrations, Punisher of the Stupid and Close-Minded, and Color-Coder Extraordinaire (he made the title up himself). You may call me simply... Awesome."
Ellie gaped as all thoughts, words, and notions failed her. Part of her wanted to laugh. Most of her wanted to cry. Even the weather, the rosebushes and everything else just... stopped.
                Was this man... insane?
He stood up to his full height and smiled down at Ellie making her feel as though she were the smallest thing in all the worlds, a three-year-old again, and infant even compared to... this.
                What the hell was this?
"I have come in response to many requests for my intervention from the many people who care about and love you... though I'm not entirely sure why. They all seem to be worried though and it made me curious. What seems to be the problem? Did a ritual go wrong?" He waved a hand almost dismissively. "Are you an aberration the Council deems necessary to eradicate? I didn't really listen to what your siblings, aunt, grandfather, and well... the last request came from someone I'm certain has no connection to you when they enumerated why I should help. So, you'll have to tell me."

You'll probably guess how the story ends, but then again you may not. I've been practicing a new outlining method. If I do well enough on it, I'll copy and paste information from the outline into here to give you guys a good idea of what I'm doing.
