The 10th Kingdom

It's not what it seems!
So, about a decade or so ago, I arrive at my cousin's house and one of them is going on about the 10th Kingdom. Then she puts it in the DVD player and I was treated to some of the best 417 minutes of television that I've ever seen.

It's one of those magical films/TV series that comes along in a great while and just blow everything else out of the water.

The story is like this:

Virginia Lewis lives with her father in an apartment near Central Park where her father is a repairman. She works full time as a waitress at some fancy restaurant. She's pretty ordinary until one day she hits a dog with her bicycle on the way to work. The dog is actually a prince who has been transformed by his wicked stepmother from the Nine Kingdoms, a magical world where every fairytale happened two hundred years ago. He's being chased by trolls (the three bungling children of the Troll King) and a big bad wolf (named, creatively, Wolf). Since the dog won't leave her, Virginia becomes his protector and through a series of mishaps mostly caused by Virginia's buffoon of a father, they end up in the Nine Kingdoms fleeing for their lives and trying to find a way home.

In short, it's kind of like a lot of fantasy these days, but it's really well done. The characters make the whole story pop, and the poignant moments will truly bring you to tears.

There are appearances from some of our favorite fairytale characters: a 200-year-old Cinderella who's undergone a lot of magical surgery, the mostly dead Evil Queen from Snow White, Snow White, several dwarfs, trolls, fairies, gypsies, and talking, singing magic mushrooms.

Okay, those aren't really favorte fairytale characters towards the end, but they're awesome!

Also, it's nearly as quotable as The Princess Bride.

Basically, you should take a chance to watch it if you ever see in on Netflix, TV, Amazon Prime, HULU, etc. Buy it for all I care!

Just watch this show because it was brilliant!
